Before the lesson
Retain page 2 for checking. Review I am, singular is and plural/you are. Model question order and a negative short answer before learners start Part 2.
- Complete Part 1, identifying the subject even when it follows the gap in a question.
- Complete Part 2 and add not where a no answer requires it. Compare the question's subject with the pronoun in its response.
- Check against the teacher page and read selected exchanges aloud in pairs. As an optional extension, substitute familiar names or places.
Support and extension
For support, display the subject–be table and work through one exchange together. For an extension, create two new exchanges using the same patterns. Accept grammatical contractions where the writing format permits, but do not contract a positive short answer to Yes, she's. Check form and meaning rather than copying the model's personal details.
Suggested approach. Adjust the pace and number of questions to suit your class.
