Before the lesson
Select a short argument from the current lesson and agree on respectful turn-taking. Inviting a contribution should remain an invitation, not a demand to disclose a view.
- Choose a clarification or evidence phrase and use it to investigate the argument before judging it.
- In an optional discussion, build on a point or disagree politely, explaining the reason rather than using the phrase alone.
- Summarise the area of agreement or difference, then give feedback linking a detail to the main claim.
Support and extension
Offer a small phrase bank for support. Extend by paraphrasing a partner's argument before responding. This is a one-page language reference, not a complete debate pack; feedback should be specific and constructive.
Suggested approach. Adjust the pace and number of questions to suit your class.
