Before the lesson
Explain subject and base verb using I, she, go and work. Select familiar personal questions; learners can use fictional details.
- Compare Are you...? with Do you...? and identify which verb starts each pattern.
- Read the does and can rows, checking that the following main verb stays in its base form.
- Use the printed error checks to review an optional set of teacher-created everyday questions.
Support and extension
Support by keeping the chart visible and modelling one pattern at a time. Extend with a question word followed by be or do/does. There are no printed exercises or separate key; any question-writing activity is an added application of the reference.
Suggested approach. Adjust the pace and number of questions to suit your class.
