Before the lesson
Review pronoun-before-verb and possessive-adjective-before-noun patterns. Keep page 2 separate. Model Maria works becoming She works, alongside my bag rather than I bag.
- Complete Part 1 using both the preceding context and the word following the gap.
- Complete Part 2, tracing whose thing or which person is referred to. Discuss why You and Ben leads to your test and My family and I leads to our house.
- Check and read the completed sentences. As an optional extension, replace a name or object and adjust the pronoun or possessive form.
Support and extension
For support, display I / my, he / his and other paired forms. For an extension, write two linked sentences about an invented person. My teacher does not specify gender, so he or singular they may also fit with the appropriate following verb. Accept contextually grammatical alternatives instead of treating the model's she as the only possible identity.
Suggested approach. Adjust the pace and number of questions to suit your class.
