A simple way to teach it
Before the lesson
Print pages 1–2 for learners and keep the reading answer key on page 3 separate. Review from, live, teacher and free time. Learners may write about an imaginary person instead of disclosing personal information.
- Read Alex's profile once for the main idea, then locate the details needed for the nine questions. Contrast Canada, where Alex is from, with Tokyo, where he lives.
- Compare reading answers in pairs and check against the text. Draw attention to He lives and He likes when reporting information about Alex.
- Complete the personal-profile starters on page 2 using Alex's text as a model. Invite learners to read a few sentences to a partner and check whether the meaning is clear.
Support and extension
For support, rehearse answers orally before writing. For an extension, combine the completed starters into a short paragraph. The key applies to Alex's reading only; personal writing will vary. Check a / an before jobs and avoid copying Alex's details unintentionally.
