Before the lesson
Review accident-prone, bruise and stitches as language items. Explain that fictional or general examples are welcome and graphic details are unnecessary. Offer a different prompt to anyone uncomfortable discussing injury or emergency services.
- Read a model response and identify the event, detail and outcome, or the opinion and reason. Keep the focus on organising an answer.
- Choose prompts and plan developed responses. Use past forms for a specific incident and general statements for prevention ideas, with extra paper where needed.
- Compare structure with page 2 and revise for clear sequence and relevant support. Optional sharing should respect learners' choice to keep an experience private.
Support and extension
For support, provide brief planning questions: What happened? When? What was the result? For an extension, compare two general prevention ideas. Models are language examples, not medical or emergency guidance. Assess clarity and development rather than requiring real injury experiences or judging the effectiveness of local services from anecdotes.
Suggested approach. Adjust the pace and number of questions to suit your class.
