Before the lesson
Review invention, gadget and physical effort. Use familiar household or workplace examples without requiring access to devices. Choose a realistic number of questions for the available time; extra paper can support longer responses.
- Read a model and identify its claim and supporting reason. Discuss how a device can help in one situation but create difficulty in another.
- Plan and write responses to selected questions, using concrete examples for claims about convenience or dependence.
- Review for clear support rather than a bare list. As an optional finish, share the invented machine from question 6 and explain the problem it would solve.
Support and extension
For support, give idea–reason–example prompts and vocabulary for everyday devices. For an extension, add a drawback or limitation to an invention proposal. The historical-invention question invites a reasoned choice, not one correct winner. Page 2 is a set of possible answers; assess writing organisation and explanation rather than agreement with its opinions.
Suggested approach. Adjust the pace and number of questions to suit your class.
