Before the lesson
Select verbs relevant to the class rather than teaching the whole table at once. This is a reference sheet with no gaps or separate answer key.
- Locate familiar verbs and read across all three columns.
- Use the table to check verb forms in an existing writing task, distinguishing a completed past event from have + participle.
- Optionally cover one column for a short recall activity, then check directly against the table.
Support and extension
For beginners, focus on common past forms such as went, had and saw. For an extension, compare families with unchanged forms and three different forms. UK / US labels are helpful models, not rigid boundaries. Model read pronunciation explicitly; the sheet does not explain all uses of the participle.
Suggested approach. Adjust the pace and number of questions to suit your class.
