A simple way to teach it

Before the lesson

Review common meanings and distinguish began / begun and drank / drunk.

  1. Complete page 1, identifying the missing column rather than assuming every gap needs a past tense.
  2. Compare with page 2 and mark the forms that differ from the base verb.
  3. Read selected families aloud. As an optional extension, use a past-simple form in a completed-event sentence and a participle in a suitable have + participle sentence.

Support and extension

Group verbs with matching past forms, such as bought / bought, separately from three-form families such as choose / chose / chosen. For support, reveal only the relevant key rows after an attempt. The printed task is form recall; the sentence extension is teacher-added, not an included exercise.

Suggested approach. Adjust the pace and number of questions to suit your class.
