A simple way to teach it

Before the lesson

Sketch a room with a window, sofa and a few objects on a shelf.

  1. Give learners one minute to find clues about places where things can be stored.
  2. Pairs explain what a drawer and cupboard have in common and how the clues distinguish them.
  3. Use the key to check the grid, then ask learners to add three labels to the room sketch.

Support and extension

Ask partners to draw a room from a description using above, next to or in front of.

Suggested approach. Adjust the pace and number of questions to suit your class.
