A simple way to teach it

Before the lesson

Model the park sentence with go and went, then show how its letters fit into the grid.

  1. Have learners fill sentence gaps they can answer before transferring the words into the puzzle.
  2. Ask pairs to compare bought and brought and check the sentences that tell them which verb to use.
  3. Check the completed grid, then have learners make a did question from one of the sentences.

Support and extension

Give a short list of base and past pairs for support, or extend the activity with a weekend sentence using two irregular verbs.

Suggested approach. Adjust the pace and number of questions to suit your class.
