Before the lesson
Choose a manageable set linked to current work. Review lay / laid / laid versus lie / lay / lain; no exercise or answer-key page is supplied.
- Find selected verbs and trace base, past-simple and participle forms.
- Apply the table to a short piece of learner writing, checking which form the sentence structure requires.
- Optionally compare a verb family such as write / rewrite or take / undertake and explain its meaning in context.
Support and extension
Accept the listed -t / -ed variants without treating UK / US labels as exclusive rules. The footnotes also allow proved, sewed and sowed participles. Distinguish recline from regular lie meaning say something untrue, and borne from be born. A recall quiz is optional teacher-added practice.
Suggested approach. Adjust the pace and number of questions to suit your class.
