Before the lesson
Do not treat every listed form as the normal everyday choice. Start with verbs relevant to a text, such as mislead, override or foresee; the sheet has no printed exercises.
- Locate a verb and check its past-simple and participle columns.
- Read the footnotes before selecting forms such as abode or throve / thriven; compare the usual modern alternatives.
- Optionally examine a short text and explain how a prefixed form relates to its base family.
Support and extension
For support, separate common prefixed verbs from literary vocabulary. Accept standard alternatives such as abided and thrived, and explain meaning-dependent cleave forms. Practise misread / reread pronunciation. UK / US labels show tendencies. Use this as a writing reference, not a requirement to memorise every rare form.
Suggested approach. Adjust the pace and number of questions to suit your class.
