Before the lesson
Choose examples familiar to the class. Explain that articles are included under determiners; some traditional eight-part lists group them differently.
- Read selected definitions alongside their sentence examples rather than memorising labels in isolation.
- Compare I work here with My work is interesting and identify the different jobs of work.
- As an optional application, label selected words in a short teacher-provided sentence and explain the evidence.
Support and extension
Start with nouns, verbs and adjectives for support. Extend by examining an adverb modifying an adjective rather than only a verb. This is a reference, not a worksheet with a printed identification exercise; classify words in context, not solely by spelling.
Suggested approach. Adjust the pace and number of questions to suit your class.
