Before the lesson
Print the single page. No devices or online demonstrations are necessary. Learners can discuss familiar tools without naming an app or sharing account information.
- Read the definitions and examples. Contrast user-friendly with cutting-edge: something can be easy to use without being technologically new.
- Discuss the six prompts in pairs, drawing on the vocabulary boxes. Ask for a concrete example when learners evaluate screen time or ways of keeping in touch.
- Invite pairs to summarise whether they would try a digital detox and what would be difficult. Revisit behind the times, which appears in the vocabulary section but has no dedicated discussion question.
Support and extension
For support, let learners keep the definitions visible and prepare one opinion before speaking. For an extension, ask them to recommend a genuinely user-friendly tool using two expressions. Discussion answers vary; check that expressions fit the meaning rather than requiring every item in every response.
Suggested approach. Adjust the pace and number of questions to suit your class.
