Before the lesson
Review running costs, congestion and driverless cars. Invite an imagined car choice or a non-driver's perspective, and distinguish predictions from established facts.
- Choose prompts and plan a point with a reason or example, rather than giving only a car brand or a yes/no answer.
- Write responses to ownership or driving questions, then use cautious prediction language for driverless cars and cars in a hundred years.
- Read the page 2 models and revise one answer. Optionally compare the benefits and drawbacks of car ownership.
Support and extension
For support, use because, for example and may / might frames. For an extension, consider a counterargument to an age limit or ownership preference. Do not assess driving skill or insist on a fixed retirement age. Future-technology models are speculative, not a timetable or driving-safety advice.
Suggested approach. Adjust the pace and number of questions to suit your class.
