Before the lesson
Clarify encouragement, manageable steps and overcome. Learners may invent a character or select ordinary study challenges; the hopelessness prompt need not be answered personally.
- Describe an inspiring person or a challenge, explaining the specific action that made a difference.
- Develop an answer about encouraging children or maintaining motivation with an example rather than a slogan.
- Compare with page 2's possible responses and revise a future aim to connect the goal with a plausible next step.
Support and extension
Offer When... I try to... because... for support. Extend by distinguishing helpful encouragement from pressure to perform perfectly. This is reflective language practice, not mental-health treatment; do not require learners to disclose distress or difficult life events.
Suggested approach. Adjust the pace and number of questions to suit your class.
