A simple way to teach it
Before the lesson
Print the A2 sheet and model its examples. The eight questions have varied answers; imagined friendships are acceptable.
- Compare stay in with come over, then practise inviting someone and suggesting what to bring along. Explain take care as a goodbye here.
- Discuss the prompts in pairs, allowing short reasons about joining groups, picnics and activities that cheer people up.
- Role-play a small mistake using Never mind and finish the exchange with Take care. Check that the response fits a minor problem.
Support and extension
Support with invitation frames. Extend by planning an imaginary gathering using several phrases; do not require learners to describe upsetting personal events.
Suggested approach. Adjust the pace and number of questions to suit your class.
