A simple way to teach it

Before the lesson

Collect dependable, thoughtful, trustworthy and reliable. Make clear that learners can describe an invented friend and need not name someone whose habits annoy them.

  1. Describe a friend through a quality and a behaviour that illustrates it.
  2. Develop opinions about friends versus family and lending money, explaining conditions rather than giving only yes/no answers.
  3. Compare with page 2's possible responses and improve one answer by replacing a vague adjective with a specific example.

Support and extension

Provide One quality I value is... because... for support. An optional extension is writing a tactful response to an annoying habit. Do not treat the sample lending decision as financial advice or friendship rules; other well-supported positions are valid.

Suggested approach. Adjust the pace and number of questions to suit your class.
