Before the lesson
Check suitability and offer a less sensitive topic without penalty. Review ownership, prevention, accountability and de-escalation as discussion vocabulary.
- Distinguish a view about ownership from an assertion about national prevalence; admit when figures are unknown.
- Develop an answer about police, communities or toy guns with a reason and a relevant limitation.
- Compare with page 2's possible responses and analyse the slogan: explain its claim before giving a supported agreement or disagreement.
Support and extension
Support with One argument is... whereas.... Extend by identifying what evidence would be needed for a national comparison. Do not request personal accounts of violence, supply practical weapon guidance or treat the models as current laws or professional safety advice.
Suggested approach. Adjust the pace and number of questions to suit your class.
