Before the lesson
Read the speaking anchors before an interview and the writing guidance before marking a sample.
- Agree what level of task the learner is attempting, then compare one criterion at a time with the anchors.
- Discuss a hypothetical learner who completes an A1 task very well: a rating of 5 still describes that task, not C2 ability.
- Use the unobserved and untested options when evidence is missing instead of assigning a low mark.
Support and extension
Keep the reference beside the compact form during early uses. Do not average the ratings or convert their total into a proficiency level.
Suggested approach. Adjust the pace and number of questions to suit your class.
