Before the lesson
Clarify motivation, achievement and personal development. Let learners choose an ordinary learning goal rather than disclose a private difficulty.
- Plan one answer about studying English: name the goal, explain why it matters and add an example.
- Write answers to the remaining prompts, distinguishing personal experience from broad claims about what anyone can achieve.
- Compare with page 2's possible answers. Revise one claim by acknowledging a limitation or another factor.
Support and extension
For support, use I am motivated by... because... and a concrete example. For an extension, contrast reward-based motivation with interest in the activity itself. Accept different conclusions; the models demonstrate support, not correct beliefs.
Suggested approach. Adjust the pace and number of questions to suit your class.
