Before the lesson
Review valued versus expensive and influence versus fame. Make family background optional and allow an invented identity or a non-family influence.
- Describe style or a valued possession, giving a detail that explains the choice rather than only naming it.
- Develop answers about influence, improvement and a wished-for skill; use I wish I could... for an ability.
- Compare with page 2's possible responses and revise an answer about remembrance or a personal quality with an example of behaviour.
Support and extension
Support with It matters to me because.... Extend by contrasting an outward feature such as clothing with a value expressed through action. Do not require financial, family or intimate disclosures; the models demonstrate development, not a preferred kind of identity.
Suggested approach. Adjust the pace and number of questions to suit your class.
