Before the lesson
Review athlete, traditional sport and live sporting event. Provide familiar activity names. Learners may discuss watching, invented examples or not enjoying sport; participation and personal fitness are not requirements.
- Model the difference between a sport you play and one you watch. Rehearse a preference with a reason.
- Write responses, checking current habits against school-time past activities and a live-event experience. Encourage a relevant negative response where necessary.
- Compare sentence patterns with page 2 and revise. As an optional finish, share an activity learners would like to try and explain why.
Support and extension
For support, give I play…, I used to… where already known, or I did… for school activities, and I would like to try…. For an extension, combine selected answers into a short sports profile. Do not expect one national opinion or favourite athlete. The models illustrate language, not a factual sports quiz or a fixed answer key.
Suggested approach. Adjust the pace and number of questions to suit your class.
