Before the lesson
Review last year versus so far, and the mixed conditional in the childhood-English question: if + past perfect, would + base verb for a present result. Permit fictional or neutral experiences.
- Describe a past event with a clear time reference and explain its importance.
- Develop the generational comparison and imagined-past answers without assuming all families have similar experiences.
- Read the possible answers on page 2 and revise one response for tense choice and a clear connection between experience and explanation.
Support and extension
For support, choose a school, work or hobby memory. For an extension, explain how a different past decision could affect life now. Do not require disclosure of traumatic memories or regrets; assess the writing rather than the learner's life choices.
Suggested approach. Adjust the pace and number of questions to suit your class.
