A simple way to teach it

Before the lesson

Review waiter, menu, full and pay. Clarify full as not hungry after eating; distinguish what Ali wants from what Rosa wants.

  1. Read for the two friends' lunch choices and locate the reason Ali does not want cake.
  2. Write six complete answers using the story, including the twelve-pound total rather than inventing individual prices.
  3. Check page 3, then use the two partner prompts to discuss lunch and drink preferences.

Support and extension

Provide Ali wants... / Rosa wants... as support. Extend by noticing wants and does not want, keeping the base verb after does not. This is reading comprehension, not a supplied ordering role-play or menu-pricing exercise; preference answers are not marked against the key.

Suggested approach. Adjust the pace and number of questions to suit your class.
