A simple way to teach it

Before the lesson

Review wake up, bag, window and friendly. Practise seven o'clock and half past seven so Nina's and Eva's times remain distinct.

  1. Read once to identify Nina, Eva and their different destinations.
  2. Reread and answer the six questions in complete sentences, checking Nina's drink and bag contents rather than Eva's.
  3. Check with page 3, then ask a partner about getting up and breakfast using present-simple forms.

Support and extension

Offer Nina... sentence starters and let learners point to evidence first. Extend by sequencing leaving at eight and starting class at nine. The story describes a Monday in present-simple form; learners need not copy its routine or food preferences.

Suggested approach. Adjust the pace and number of questions to suit your class.
