A simple way to teach it

Before the lesson

Review grass, lake, picnic and bench. Use first, then and after to track the order of events.

  1. Read once to identify the main stages: play, walk to the lake, picnic and reading.
  2. Reread for six full-sentence answers, distinguishing Maya's ball from the food and water her father brings.
  3. Check with page 3 and discuss parks or outdoor activities using learners' own preferences.

Support and extension

Support by mapping the stages with simple pictures or short notes. Extend by retelling the routine with sequence words and present-simple verbs. Keep the six ducks distinct from their colour groups; accept equivalent text-based answers rather than requiring exact key wording.

Suggested approach. Adjust the pace and number of questions to suit your class.
