Before the lesson
Print the task separately from the page 2 suggested key and provide notebooks. Review domestic with a travel or business example and secure with a clear context. Neutral situations work better than personal labels.
- Model available / unavailable, then attempt the list. Ask learners to mark any original adjective whose meaning is uncertain.
- Check answers and discuss the key's alternatives: healthy / unhealthy, frequent / infrequent, cheap / expensive and clear / unclear. Compare these with the printed suggestions to see why context matters.
- Choose four pairs and write one sentence per pair using one or both words. Partners check meaning and suggest a clearer context where needed.
Support and extension
For support, supply short definitions or a mixed answer bank. For an extension, compare clear instructions with clear water and discuss how the relevant contrast changes. Do not force a single opposite onto every sense of a word. Accept suitable alternatives and meaningful writing; the four sentences have no fixed answer key.
Suggested approach. Adjust the pace and number of questions to suit your class.
