A simple way to teach it
Before the lesson
Review borrow, return, shelf and neighbour. Keep the page 3 key for checking after reading and attempting answers.
- Read for the change in Emma's plan: why she enters the library and what she decides to do next.
- Reread for the six answers, distinguishing one month ago from the three-week borrowing period.
- Compare full-sentence answers with page 3, then discuss rainy-day activities or reading groups using personal reasons.
Support and extension
Support by locating the relevant paragraph before writing. Extend by retelling the change of plan using went, found and felt. Accept equivalent text-supported answers; the two partner questions have no fixed answer, and the story's borrowing period is not a rule for every library.
