Find 15 irregular past-simple verbs in a letter grid using the supplied word bank. This is a spelling-recognition activity that can reinforce verb learning, not a substitute for practising the forms in sentences.

A simple way to teach it
Before the lesson
Print the puzzle on page 1 and keep the circled solution on page 2 separate. Have pencils or highlighters available. Check that learners know the word bank contains past forms rather than infinitives.
- Read the word bank together and recall the base forms of a few examples, such as went / go and bought / buy.
- Find and mark the words in the grid, ticking each off in the bank. Let partners compare locations before showing the solution.
- As an optional follow-up, choose three found verbs and say a sentence about a past event. Check meaning as well as spelling.
Support and extension
For support, split the word bank between partners and let them share discoveries. For an extension, cover the bank after reading it and recall the target forms before searching. Use the circled key to check locations; the optional spoken sentences will have varied answers.
