A simple way to teach it
Before the lesson
Use the three-page reading with the answer key held back. Check exhibition, local, volunteer and pencil; the weekend story is fictional, not an events listing.
- First identify the original plan and the weather forecast. Ask what makes the library a suitable alternative to the cinema.
- Complete the six questions, locating the familiar bakery in the paintings, Alex's boat and the length of their visit. Check who does each activity.
- Review answers for meaning rather than identical wording. Use the two discussion prompts to suggest inexpensive outings and rainy-day activities.
Support and extension
Support with a beach / cinema / library comparison and names beside the drawing details. Extend by planning an affordable rainy Saturday and explaining the choices.
