Before the lesson
Print the single page. Preteach eating out, cuisine and fried food if needed. Make health, diet and food restrictions optional discussion areas; learners can choose less personal prompts.
- Begin with favourite foods and cooking ability. Ask learners to add an example instead of stopping after a food name.
- Pairs choose questions about home cooking, restaurants and childhood preferences. Encourage a follow-up about a dish, occasion or reason.
- Use the restaurant-quality question or the one-cuisine-for-a-month choice for a closing discussion. Have pairs explain a recommendation or compare their choices.
Support and extension
For support, supply flavour words and I prefer… because… . For an extension, ask learners to explain a change in their eating habits using a past-and-present comparison. No answers are prescribed; assess the language and reasons, not the learner's diet.
Suggested approach. Adjust the pace and number of questions to suit your class.
