Before the lesson
Print the single page and review fixed routine, flexible hours and working from home if needed. Learners can use imagined jobs or experiences outside employment; avoid requiring disclosure of income or workplace problems.
- Open with jobs that interest learners and indoor or outdoor work. Encourage an explanation of what would make the work enjoyable.
- Discuss selected prompts about teams, a first working day or a busy schedule. Ask partners for a practical example rather than only agreeing or disagreeing.
- Finish with career advice or trying a job for one day. Have learners explain which skills or working conditions influenced their choice.
Support and extension
For support, offer I'd prefer… because… and A good colleague… . For an extension, compare interesting work with flexible hours and propose a compromise. Personal views have no fixed key; assess how clearly learners justify their priorities.
Suggested approach. Adjust the pace and number of questions to suit your class.
