Use 20 B1 conversation prompts to discuss listening habits, changing tastes, instruments and live music. The aim is to develop answers with reasons and examples and to ask follow-up questions, not to test musical knowledge.

A simple way to teach it
Before the lesson
Print one sheet per learner or pair. No audio tracks or knowledge of particular artists are required. For a shorter activity, choose six to eight questions rather than trying to complete all 20.
- Start with questions 1–4 about everyday listening. Model an answer with a reason, then a follow-up such as When do you listen to it?
- Let partners choose questions from different parts of the sheet. Move from habits to past experiences, concerts and preferences; allow time for genuine follow-up questions.
- Finish with question 20: partners suggest a playlist for each other and explain their choices. Invite a brief report of one similarity or difference they discovered.
Support and extension
For support, offer sentence starters such as I usually listen to… because… and I prefer… . For an extension, ask partners to compare the small-concert and big-festival options in question 13. Learners who rarely listen to music can discuss that preference; personal answers need no answer key.
Suggested approach. Adjust the pace and number of questions to suit your class.
