Before the lesson
Print the single page. Explain audiobook and unfamiliar if needed. No books or extracts are required; allow learners to include messages, news or other everyday reading in their answers.
- Start with what learners read and whether they prefer paper or screens. Ask them to describe a typical reading situation.
- Pairs select questions about choosing material, finishing a book or meeting an unfamiliar word. Encourage follow-ups about a strategy that has helped.
- Finish with what learners would like to read in English or the imagined-book question. Invite a brief explanation of the topic and intended audience.
Support and extension
For support, provide phrases such as I usually read… and When I don't know a word, I… . For an extension, compare audiobooks and printed stories without assuming one is better for everyone. There is no fixed answer key; focus on examples and clear reasoning.
Suggested approach. Adjust the pace and number of questions to suit your class.
