Before the lesson
Print one page per learner or pair. No film clips or streaming subscriptions are needed. Learners can discuss any programme they know and should avoid revealing endings when recommending a story.
- Begin with preferred genres and the last enjoyable thing watched. Ask for a brief reason rather than a long plot summary.
- Select prompts about characters, subtitles, endings or reviews. Encourage partners to ask for an example that illustrates an opinion.
- Use the recommendation question to finish. Have learners explain who might enjoy their choice and why, without giving away the ending.
Support and extension
For support, review character, subtitles, review and ending before speaking. For an extension, compare watching a film based on a book with watching a new story. Discussion responses vary; judge how well learners explain preferences, not their knowledge of particular films.
Suggested approach. Adjust the pace and number of questions to suit your class.
