A simple way to teach it

Before the lesson

Print the single page and choose a manageable selection of prompts. Explain that everyday relaxation counts: learners do not need an unusual hobby or specialist skill to take part.

  1. Start with favourite free-time activities and indoor or outdoor preferences. Model an answer that explains when and why the activity is enjoyable.
  2. Pairs discuss childhood interests, hobbies they stopped and things they would like to try. Encourage follow-ups about how an interest began.
  3. Finish with a recommendation for a friend or the free-afternoon question. Ask partners to suggest an activity that fits the other person's time and interests.

Support and extension

For support, offer I enjoy… because… and I'd like to try… . For an extension, compare one main hobby with several hobbies, or discuss turning a hobby into a job. There is no answer key; value a clear reason even when partners have different preferences.

Suggested approach. Adjust the pace and number of questions to suit your class.
