Before the lesson
Review gathering, host, guest and shared celebration. Let learners choose a public, invented or familiar event; do not assume everyone celebrates the same holidays or enjoys parties.
- Compare small gatherings and big parties using the opening questions. Model a reason and an example before pairs begin.
- Choose prompts about food, music, gifts and helping the host. Follow a past-event answer with questions about where it happened and what made it enjoyable.
- Finish with question 20 and describe a new celebration. As an optional extension, pairs agree on its purpose, guests and a low-cost activity, then explain their plan.
Support and extension
For support, provide event vocabulary and I would bring… or A good host…. For an extension, add a rain contingency using question 18. There is no fixed answer key. Accept different cultural practices and preferences, and check the clarity of explanations rather than judging the tradition.
Suggested approach. Adjust the pace and number of questions to suit your class.
