Before the lesson
Print the page and choose prompts suitable for the group. Explain that learning can happen outside school, such as cooking, using a tool or practising a sport. There is no learning-style test on the sheet.
- Start with a skill learners would like to learn and the last useful thing they learned. Ask how they began and what helped.
- Pairs discuss remembering words, understanding difficult material and learning from mistakes. Encourage a specific example of a strategy rather than a universal claim about how everyone learns.
- Use the one-month skill question to finish. As an optional follow-up, ask learners to suggest a realistic first practice session for their chosen skill.
Support and extension
For support, provide I learned… by… and When it's difficult, I… . For an extension, compare online-video learning with learning from a person, considering the task involved. No answer key is needed; strategies may suit different people and situations.
Suggested approach. Adjust the pace and number of questions to suit your class.
