A simple way to teach it

Before the lesson

Review countryside, hike, picnic and green space. Offer accessible local examples such as a park or short walk, and allow imagined trips if learners have little outdoor experience.

  1. Begin by comparing favourite outdoor places and what learners notice on a walk. Model an answer with a specific detail.
  2. Pairs choose prompts about picnics, wildlife, camping and clean public spaces. Encourage follow-ups that explore the partner's reason or experience.
  3. Use question 20 to plan an outdoor day for the class. As an optional extension, agree on a place, an activity and one way to leave the area clean.

Support and extension

For support, supply place and activity vocabulary and We could… starters. For an extension, connect the plan to question 13 and explain how it could suit different age groups. There is no fixed answer key; assess clear suggestions and responsive discussion. Do not assume every learner can or wants to take a long hike.

Suggested approach. Adjust the pace and number of questions to suit your class.
