Before the lesson
Review playful, suitable, pet sitter and responsibility. Make clear that owning or liking pets is not required. Learners may discuss a familiar animal, an imagined owner or a general situation.
- Start with interesting animals and preferences for quiet or playful pets. Model a reason that goes beyond naming an animal.
- Select prompts about care, cafes, parks and helping animals. Ask partners to consider more than one viewpoint and use follow-up questions to clarify suggestions.
- Finish with question 20: choose an animal to observe for a day and explain why. Invite a partner to ask what the learner hopes to find out.
Support and extension
For support, provide animal names and Owners need to… starters. For an extension, use question 14 to propose park rules that consider both dog owners and other visitors. Answers are open-ended, with no fixed key. Keep this a language discussion, not a source of animal-care instructions or a test of factual wildlife knowledge.
Suggested approach. Adjust the pace and number of questions to suit your class.
