Before the lesson
Print one page per learner or pair. Review second-hand, special offer and returns if needed. Learners can use ordinary purchases or imagined examples rather than revealing personal spending.
- Begin with online purchases and preferred kinds of shops. Model a preference with a reason and invite one follow-up question.
- Pairs choose prompts about comparing prices, trusting sellers or buying unnecessary items. Ask for an example of what affects a decision.
- Finish with advice for a big purchase or an improvement to shopping. Have partners explain which suggestion would be most useful and why.
Support and extension
For support, use I compare… and I would check… as starters. For an extension, compare buying fewer expensive things with more cheap things in question 16. There is no fixed answer key; evaluate the explanation rather than endorsing a particular spending habit.
Suggested approach. Adjust the pace and number of questions to suit your class.
